It’s not a particularly hard job to work out how to get healthy, just start doing the things healthy people do.

If you first want to work out just how healthy you are there are a few places to go.

The first port of call could be your doctor who’ll be able to determine if you’re so unhealthy you’ve got medical problems.

The second port of call is your fitness practitioner to find out how aerobically fit, strong and flexible you are. If you’re not fit then chances are you’re not all that healthy, or you’re on the way to poor health. This is a step usually left out of the health assessment process.

It would also be worth while going to your naturopath to check out whether a lifetime of poor eating has left you in poor health.

Regardless of your state of health there’s a lot you can do for yourself to get healthy.

The three great body system dysfunctions of our time are:

  1. metabolic
  2. musculo-skeletal
  3. psychological

You’ll know them by their symptoms.

The common symptoms of metabolic dysfunction are; elevated blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels, the accumulation of fat around your body, feeling depressed, tired and lacking in energy, stiffening up … You’ve got a diet and exercise problem.

The first of the how to get healthy secrets is to restore poor metabolic function to good, embark on a regular and systematic aerobic exercise program and change your diet.

On the diet front, lay off the garbohydrates, fat and flour, fat and sugar and fat, flour and sugar. You won’t die! You’ll lose fat from around your body, you’ll feel more energized. You’ll have less headaches.

The symptom of musculo-skeletal dysfunction is lower back and other joint pain. The principle cause? Motion starvation. You don’t move enough.

The second of the how to get healthy secrets is to embark on a regular and systematic strength and flexibility training program. To improve your flexibility you can’t go past yoga, it’s been around for thousands of years. There are strength exercises you can do at home and the gym.

The symptoms of psychological dysfunction range from feelings of sadness, grief, anger, frustration, unhappiness …, down to being stressed out of your brain or feeling blue. These are normal healthy emotions to experience when things aren’t going your way, but if the feelings persist, then the counsellor or a good personal development program may be just the shot to lead you out of the maze. Even a holiday may help.

Clinical depression is a different kettle of fish. Some of it may be physiologically generated through a lack of aerobic activity or omega 3 fats. Some of it may be caused by thought processes that have gone awry.

The third of the how to get healthy secrets is to improve your mental health by embarking on a rigorous personal development program, upping your aerobic activity and omega 3 fat intake, cleaning up your life, including your desk at work, your house, your garden and your bedroom; immersing yourself in a favourite hobby, spending more time with friends, taking a 21 day away-from-home holiday … If you haven’t got any friends, get a dog.

  3. Pay as much towards the credit card debt as you are able to pay each month. Strive to consistently pay more than the minimum to avoid paying hundreds of dollars in interest and fees so that you are digging your debt deeper with every payment! Stretch your money as far as you can and pay as much as possible towards credit card debt each month.If this means eliminating expenses elsewhere in your budget to make a higher credit card payment, then by all means do it. If you routinely eat out for lunch or dinner, then change your habits and prepare a lower cost meal at home or take your lunch to work.

    Eliminate all the unnecessary consumables such as lunch time coffees, takeaway meals from your daily routine. Setup a carpool to travel to work with a friend. Find ways to reduce expenses in other areas and apply the savings toward credit card payments. The faster you can pay off credit card debt, the sooner you’ll be financially independent.

  4. Once your credit card debt is paid off, congratulate yourself on accomplishing this goal! You’ve done a great job of managing your money and staying true to your values by focusing on your goal. You’re now one step closer to financial independence and being simply happy.
