<p>It’s not a particularly hard job to work out <strong>how to get healthy</strong>, just start doing the things healthy people do.</p>
<p>If you first want to work out just how healthy you are there are a few places to go.</p>
<p>The first port of call could be your doctor who’ll be able to determine if you’re so unhealthy you’ve got medical problems.</p>
<p>The second port of call is your fitness practitioner to find out how aerobically fit, strong and flexible you are. If you’re not fit then chances are you’re not all that healthy, or you’re on the way to poor health. This is a step usually left out of the health assessment process.</p>
<p>It would also be worth while going to your naturopath to check out whether a lifetime of poor eating has left you in poor health.</p>
<p>Regardless of your state of health there’s a lot you can do for yourself to get healthy.</p>
<p><strong>The three great body system dysfunctions of our time are:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>metabolic</li>
<li>musculo-skeletal</li>
<li>psychological</li>
</ol>
<p>You’ll know them by their symptoms.</p>
<p>The common symptoms of <strong>metabolic dysfunction</strong> are; elevated blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels, the accumulation of fat around your body, feeling depressed, tired and lacking in energy, stiffening up … You’ve got a diet and exercise problem.</p>

<p>If you’re like me, I sometimes find myself asking the question &#8220;why can’t I sleep&#8221; or &#8220;how much sleep do I need&#8221; anyway and also want to know &#8220;how to go to sleep fast&#8221;, then maybe it&#8217;s time for a wake up call to find out more about natural sleeping remedies.</p>
<p><strong>Often I can&#8217;t get to sleep for a range of reasons, maybe because:</strong></p>

<li>3 cups of cooked mashed sweet potatoes</li>
<li>2 eggs</li>
<li>1 cup of sugar</li>
<li>1/2 cup of milk</li>
<li>1/2 teaspoon of salt</li>
<li>1 stick of butter, softened</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of vanilla extract</li>
<li>1 cup of light packed brown sugar</li>
<li>1/2 cup of flour</li>
<li>1 cup of finely chopped pecans</li>
</ul>
<p>In one bowl, mix sweet potatoes, eggs, sugar, milk, salt; add 1/2 stick butter and vanilla.<br />
In another bowl add brown sugar, flour, nuts, and 1/2 stick butter. Add 1/2 nut and flour  mixture in potato mixture. Save 1/2 nut and flour mixture for topping. Place in baking  dish and add topping. Bake 350 degrees for 1/2 hour.</p>
<h3>Turkey Buffet Casserole</h3>
<ul>
<li>4 oz. of medium white noodles, (about 2 cups)</li>
<li>1 pkg. of frozen broccoli spears</li>
<li>2 tablespoons of butter or margarine</li>
<li>2 tablespoons of flour</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of salt</li>
<li>1/4 teaspoon of prepared mustard</li>
<li>1/4 teaspoon of pepper</li>
<li>2 cups of milk</li>
<li>1 cup of grated American cheese</li>
<li>2 cups of cut up cooked turkey</li>
<li>1/3 cup of slivered toasted almonds</li>
</ul>
<p>Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In separate sauce pans cook noodles and broccoli as labels  direct just until tender.<br />
In saucepan over low heat, melt butter; stir in flour, salt, mustard, pepper and milk. Cook, stirring constantly until thickened.</p>
<p>Remove from heat, stir in  cheese until melted.<br />
Drain noodles and broccoli. Dice broccoli stems; leave flowerettes whole.<br />
Arrange noodles, broccoli stems, turkey in shallow casserole or 8 inch square  baking dish; pour cheese sauce over all. Arrange broccoli flowerettes on top, pressing them lightly into sauce; sprinkle with almonds.</p>
<p>Bake uncovered 15 minutes or until bubbling hot. Makes 4 to 6 servings.</p>
<h3>Rice Ham Casserole</h3>
<ul>
<li>1 box of Uncle Ben&#8217;s wild rice mix</li>
<li>1 (10 oz.) box of chopped broccoli, cooked and drained</li>
<li>1 cup of chopped ham</li>
<li>1 cup of sharp Cheddar cheese, cubed</li>
<li>1 can of mushrooms, drained</li>
<li>1 can of cream of celery soup</li>
<li>1 cup of mayonnaise</li>
<li>2 teaspoons of prepared mustard</li>
</ul>
<p>Cook rice according to directions.<br />
Place rice on bottom of 9 x 13 pan.<br />
Layer on top; broccoli, cheese, ham and mushrooms.<br />
Combine remaining ingredients and put on top.<br />
Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serves 4 or 6.</p>

<h4>Roast Turkey with Herbal Rub</h4>
<ul>
<li>1 13-Pound WHOLE TURKEY fresh or thawed</li>
<li>1 Medium onion quartered</li>
<li>1 Teaspoon dried thyme</li>
<li>1 Teaspoon salt</li>
<li>1 lemon quartered</li>
<li>1/4 Cup vegetable oil</li>
<li>1 Teaspoon dried tarragon</li>
<li>1 Tablespoon dried rosemary</li>
<li>1/2 Teaspoon freshly ground black pepper</li>
</ul>
<h3>Instructions:</h3>
<p>Preheat oven to 325.</p>
<p>Remove giblets and neck from turkey and reserve for broth.</p>
<p>Rinse turkey with cold running water and pat dry with paper towels.</p>
<p>Place onion and lemon quarters in neck and body cavities.</p>
<p>In a small bowl mix oil with herbs, salt and pepper. With your finger tips, gently loosen skin from the breast without pulling off the skin.</p>
<p>Place 1 tablespoon of herb mixture under skin; replace skin. Rub cavities and outside of turkey with remaining herb mixture.</p>
<p>Secure the neck skin to the back with skewers.</p>
<p>Fold wings under back of turkey.</p>
<p>Place legs in tucked position. May be prepared to this point, covered and refrigerated for several hours.</p>
<p>Place turkey, breast side up, on a rack in a large shallow (no more than 2-1/2 inches) deep roasting pan</p>
<p>Insert an oven-safe thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh, being careful it does not touch the bone</p>
<p>Cover bird with a loose tent of foil.</p>
<p>Roast turkey in a preheated 325 degree F. oven for about 2-1/2 hours.</p>
<p>Remove foil and baste bird with pan juices.</p>
<p>Continue to roast for about another hour until meat thermometer registers 180 degrees F. in the thigh.</p>
<p>Remove turkey from oven and allow to rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. Transfer to a large platter and serve with gravy.</p>

Christmas Ginger Cookies </span></h2>

<li>1 teaspoon of cloves</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of cinnamon</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of nutmeg</li>
<li>1/2 teaspoon of salt</li>
<li>1 cup of Crisco shortening</li>
<li>1 cup of molasses</li>
<li>1 cup of packed brown sugar</li>
<li>1/2 cup of water</li>
<li>1 large egg</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of vanilla</li>
</ul>
<p>Mix flour, soda, spices and salt. Beat shortening, molasses, sugar, water, egg and vanilla until well blended. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Will be soft. Divide into fourths. Pat each 1/4 into 1&#8243; thick round.</p>
<p>Wrap in plastic and refrigerate at least 3 hours or up to 1 week. Roll on lightly floured surface to 1/8&#8243; thick, cut with gingerbread men cutters and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheet, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.</p>

Peanut Butter Bars </span></h2>
<ul>
<li> 1/2 cup of butter or margarine</li>
<li>1/2 cup of firmly packed brown sugar</li>
<li>1/2 cup of sugar</li>
<li>1 large egg</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of vanilla</li>
<li>1/3 cup of crunchy style peanut butter</li>
<li>1 cup of unbleached flour; sifted</li>
<li>1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda</li>
<li>1/4 teaspoon of salt</li>
<li>1 cup of quick cooking oats</li>
<li>1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips</li>
</ul>
<p>Cream the butter, brown sugar, and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer at medium speed.  Beat in the egg and vanilla.  Blend in the peanut butter.  Sift the flour, baking soda and salt together.  Stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, blending well.  Stir in the oats.</p>
<p>Spread the mixture in a greased 13 X 9 X 2-inch baking pan.  Sprinkle with the chocolate chips.</p>
<p>Bake in a 350 degree F. oven for 25 minutes or until done.  Cool in the pan on a rack. While still warm drizzle with the vanilla glaze.  When cooled, cut into 48 (2 X 1 1/2-inch) bars.</p>
<h4>For The Vanilla Glaze:</h4>
<ul>
<li> 1/4 cup of confectioners&#8217; sugar</li>
<li>1/4 cup of peanut butter</li>
<li>2 tablespoons of butter or margarine</li>
<li>1/4 cup of hot milk</li>
<li>1/2 teaspoon of vanilla</li>
</ul>
<p>Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and beat, with an electric mixer set to high speed, until smooth.</p>

Shortbread cookie recipe</span></h2>
<h3>Fruited Shortbread Cookies</h3>

<li>2 1/2 cups of flour</li>
<li>1 teaspoons of cream of tartar</li>
<li>1 1/2 cups of confectioner’s sugar</li>
<li>1  &#8211; 9 oz box mincemeat</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of vanilla</li>
<li>1 teaspoon of baking soda</li>
<li>1 cup of utter, softened</li>
<li>1 egg</li>
</ul>
<p>Preheat oven to 375F.   Combine flour, soda, and cream of tartar.  In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg.  Stir in vanilla and crumbled mincemeat. Add dry ingredients.</p>
<p>Mix well, batter will be stiff. 5. Roll into 1 1/4&#8243; balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, flatten slightly..</p>
